What does Gender Equality look like to you?
This year United Nations Day will be celebrated across Asia and the Pacific with a photo contest on gender equality. The theme was chosen ahead of next year historic Beijing +20 conference, which marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women. The conference will review the progress and setbacks for women around the world using as a measure the Beijing Platform for Action, a global framework for realising gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in partnership with United Nations partners, funds and agencies in Asia and the Pacific is calling for submissions from all photographers, Instagrammers, environmentalists, human rights advocates, young people, older persons, men, women and anyone who has an interest in stunning images and gender equality.
The photo contest has two categories: one for high-quality digital images to be sent to us via email at UN4Uphoto@un.org (with caption and photographer details); the second for images shared via Instagram using #UN4Uphoto. Submissions should be sent by 10 October 2014.
Winning submissions, as selected by our judging panel, which meet the photo contest terms and conditions will be showcased at our UN Day observance (October 24) and featured in our work on gender equality, including ESCAP upcoming Asian and Pacific Conference on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment: Beijing +20 which will be convened as part of the regional review process feeding into the global dialogue in 2015.
